E-House electrical buildings are prefabricated modular buildings that house and protect electrical equipment, instrumentation and, where required, personnel in industrial areas. Alex Sistemi engineers, builds and tests them in-house to client specification, in three main configurations.
Overview
Every E-House is developed to order: dimensions, structure, materials, protection level and the equipment installed inside are defined by the project. The buildings are suitable for ATEX / IECEx classified areas and are supplied fire-rated and blast-resistant where the risk assessment requires it, with integrated fire-fighting and gas-detection systems. Our references include single-piece modules rated for blast loads up to 9 psi, with a two-hour fire rating and a weight of up to 580 tonnes per unit.
Blast-resistant auxiliary rooms
Structures that protect personnel and critical equipment in industrial areas at high explosion risk, typical of Oil & Gas, petrochemical and power plants. Each unit is engineered, built and tested in full compliance with the specified blast loads and applicable international standards. See the five 67-metre Field Auxiliary Rooms delivered for an LNG plant in Canada.
Modular electrical substations
Prefabricated substations that house and protect power distribution and control equipment across complex industrial sites, ensuring reliable management and distribution of electrical power. Engineered, built and tested in-house, with full integration of the electrical equipment to project requirements; references include substations with a two-hour fire rating and 50 Pa overpressure.
Local equipment rooms
Technical enclosures for electrical equipment, instrumentation and control panels installed close to the process areas, ensuring equipment protection and safe local control. Series production is part of our experience: more than thirty local equipment rooms were delivered for a single refinery in two years.
Integration
The value of an E-House lies in what is installed and tested before it leaves the factory. Our electrical teams interconnect and cable MV/LV cabinets, MCC, UPS and batteries, DCS/ICSS, fibre optic cabinets, transformers and control consoles, and integrate HVAC, fire and gas and telecommunication systems such as PAGA, VHF radio and CCTV. The building arrives on site as one engineered system, ready for connection.
Materials and installation
E-Houses are built in carbon steel, stainless steel or aluminium for onshore and offshore installation. The structural design covers pressure, temperature, wind and snow loads and seismic actions.
Testing and compliance
Every unit undergoes dimensional control, painting and coating tests, electrical tests (continuity, rigidity, earthing, insulation), functional equipment tests, rain test, load and drop tests, pressure and leak tests, weld inspection (PT, MT, UT) and thermal testing from −35 °C to +70 °C, followed by the factory acceptance test. Our specialists can then supervise start-up and commissioning on site. Fabrication is carried out under ISO 9001:2015, ISO 3834-2:2021, EN 1090, CSA W47.1, A660 Canadian Standard and ISO 45001:2018. See our quality and certifications page.
