Shelterised radar systems are engineered to house and protect sensitive equipment in surveillance, defence and air traffic control applications, combining dedicated structures, support systems and the integration of antennas, pedestals and electronic assemblies.
Overview
Radar equipment needs a stable, protected and electromagnetically clean environment to perform. Alex Sistemi develops modular shelters and dedicated platforms tailored to the radar system and its antennas, with dimensions that vary according to the installed equipment. Designed to military standards, these systems provide protection against electromagnetic interference, severe environmental conditions and mechanical stress, for high performance and operational stability.
Configurations
- Equipment shelters housing transmitters, receivers, processing and control electronics
- Dedicated platforms and support structures for antennas and pedestals
- Combined shelter-and-platform assemblies with ISO corners and lifting lugs for handling
Applications
- Defence surveillance radars, fixed and relocatable
- Air traffic control radar stations
- Coastal and border surveillance installations
Integration
A high level of integration and plug-and-play configuration allow rapid installation and commissioning, even in complex operational contexts. Electrical distribution, HVAC, EMI shielding, NBC filtration and pressurisation where required, cabling to antennas and pedestals, and operator interfaces are installed and tested in the factory, so that site work is limited to positioning and connection.
Protection and environments
Structures are built in carbon steel, stainless steel or aluminium and qualified for desert, marine and land environments, with water-tight and dust-tight sealing and resistance to severe operating conditions. Qualification covers extreme temperatures, transport and vibration, structural and environmental loads.
Testing and compliance
Factory testing includes dimensional control, painting and coating, electrical tests (continuity, rigidity, earthing, insulation), functional equipment tests, rain test, load and drop tests, pressure and leak tests, weld inspection (PT, MT, UT) and thermal testing from −35 °C to +70 °C. Design complies with MIL-STD 907, 810, 461/462, 285, 1472 and 889, ASTM 1925-99, NATO S-250 / S-280 / S-788, NATO I/II – ACE I/II/III, AQAP 2110 and TULPS; Alex Sistemi is registered with NCAGE code AH797.
