Albizzati S.p.A. has supplied inlet and exhaust ducts for several Frame 9 class heavy-duty gas turbines, the largest machines in conventional power generation and in large Oil & Gas facilities.
The challenge
Ducting for a Frame 9 turbine is large, heavy and thermally demanding: the inlet side must deliver filtered air at a combustion air flow of up to 1,188,000 m³/h without distortion or leakage, while the exhaust side must carry hot gases through sudden temperature changes for decades. Duct sections reach heights of up to 5 metres and must be designed for pressure, temperature, wind and snow loads and seismic actions, then fabricated to tolerances that allow bolted assembly on site without rework.
What we did
Engineering
- Custom engineering of inlet ducts and conveyors and exhaust ducts to the turbine manufacturer’s interfaces and the plant layout
- Structural and thermal design for the site operating conditions
Fabrication
- Cutting, bending and welding of carbon and stainless steel sections on in-house machinery, including laser cutting up to 12 × 2.5 m and press brakes up to 800 tonnes
- Welding under ISO 3834-2:2021 and EN 1090 quality systems
- Sandblasting and painting in our own treatment rooms
Testing
- Fit-up assembly of the complete duct run in the workshop
- Dimensional control, non-destructive examination (MT, UT, RT), liquid penetrant and visual inspection
The result
Duct assemblies prepared for shipment as complete, inspected sections, ready for bolted installation on site. The same capability covers filter houses, Hastelloy scrubber filters and control cabins for gas turbines in ATEX and A60 offshore execution.
